We explored the town the next morning before setting off for Tavira, via the pretty town of Mertola.
Beautiful trip through the Alentejo region - olive trees, cork trees, grapes everywhere (although the vines were looking pretty gnarly and black at this ti me of year!)
Tavira is sometimes called the...you guessed it...Venice of the Algarve. No gondolas, no canals that we could see...never mind...still very pretty (and smelled better than Venice!)
