Well Christmas 2010 has been and gone in a flurry of snow and wrapping paper.
We spent Christmas Eve day in Reigate, doing last minute preparations for the big day.
Can never get over how much more 'christmassy' everything looks in a cold place where it gets dark by 4pm...the shop windows are a visual feast and I could fill a suitcase with the decorative bits and bobs you can buy here. Christmas card giving is de rigueur and you can find a special card for anyone in your inner and outer circles. For anyone you miss, there's an equally comprehensive range of Happy New Year cards to keep you on the list for next year!
There are people singing carols in the streets, decorated trees in nearly every shop window, and ALL the shop assistants wish you a merry christmas as though they really mean you to have one. The thought crossed my mind that it must be an even worse time to be on your own than it is in New Zealand.
Christmas Eve, Reigate High Street
I had some more pictures of the shops and decorations but am having technical difficulties so will carry on with the blurb.
Speaking of technical problems, the laptop I brought with me has gone on the blink so after the 27th my blogging could be restricted to the odd internet cafe here and there...anyone reading this who knows about Macs please feel free to e-mail me if you have any thoughts on why it suddenly wouldn't open i-Photo and is now flashing at me with an image of what looks like a folder/file and a question mark???
Anyway, onto Christmas Day.
Santa/Father Christmas duly arrived during the night and lightened his present load significantly with all he dropped at 4 Mynthurst Farm Cottages.
Three very good little children went off to bed like lambs and awoke with great excitement....Jed at about 4.30am (although he did go back to sleep!) Once Torin came to, they were able to wade into their stockings, and then once Annabelle's mum Lyndsey arrived, they were away...
Christmas 2010 was a day of eating, drinking and being merry.
We kicked off with a cooked breakfast and bubbly, nibbled on delicious antipasto & French cheeses through the day, and tucked into a traditional feast of turkey, gammon and veg at about 5pm. Charades before bed (had forgotten how bad I am at those!) and now, as I write this on Boxing Day morning, I'm having a tribute to Dad breakfast of a cup of tea and Christmas pudding!
So that's our white Christmas.
Hope you all had one that was warm and wonderful...
