Madrid

28 December
We boarded our Easyjet flight with a little trepidation after seeing all those horrid telly programmes, but it was a most pleasant travel experience....no frills, but no hassles either...
Touchdown in Madrid Barajas just over two hours later and we made the call to taxi into the city with our rather big bags instead of braving the trains or buses.  Good call.  The highlight was Brent and the taxi driver´s conversation in Spanish...
We were safely deposited outside our hotel, Mora, which was ideally located just across the road from the Prado and around the corner from Reina Sofia, where Guernica was sadly not able to be seen on account of the museum being closed that day...
Madrid is a fantastic city and completely different/much better than I´d expected...very beautiful architecture, very clean, felt very safe etc  Am really looking forward to going back there before we leave and exploring some more.
After successfully purchasing train tickets for the trip to Plasencia the next day ( Gracias Reyes for the Spanish lessons whew!!!) we dined at the Museo de Jamon, the Ham Museum, where the walls were lined with a vast array of ´fragrant´jamon...Spanish ham.  We tried boquerones (like small sardines) calamares (squid) and chorizo.  Very nice...
